SignalChip makes India’s first ever indigenous chip

A chip on the stands

Chip-making is a thing which is not as easy as it sounds. There are only a handful of countries which have the ability to make a chip that has multiple capabilities. India is a country which does not produce its own chips but depends on the chips that are imported with the products. It is very crucial from a country’s point of view when it comes to the security of the data and all the other things, manufacturing or designing their own chips is very important.

India was not one of them but they have managed to produce a chip of their own. SignalChip is the company, based in Bengaluru, which has managed to achieve this feat. It has produced first ever indigenous semiconductor chip in India. These chips produced are very important and telecom partners are the customers for such chips. They require such chips for their equipment. India entered a small but elite group of countries.

The SoC (System on Chip) is multi-standard and can function as a base station for all kinds of form factors. It can function as base stations for low-cost indoor small cells and also to high-performance base stations. This information was given by Himanshu Khasnis, who is a founder and CEO of SignalChip. The chips are manufactured in Taiwan and are brought in India, revealed Sridhar Vembu, who is the founder of Zoho, which has invested in SignalChip.

That said, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan was present at the unveiling of this chip and stressed how important it is to produce your own chips. It is very important from a security point of view as well and this was resounded by Aruna Sundararajan.

Data is the key and future to all our problems and solutions. It is very important to preserve and secure the same. These chips can play a huge role in doing so as it is quite hard to keep the data of people in your own country if there are a lot of foreign companies dominating the businesses. China has managed to do so by ousting foreign equipment. India is following the same footsteps.

The subcontinent country has also put in place a new policy which plays a huge part in increasing electronic production in the country. It does not want the companies to import the material here but want to manufacture everything electronics locally.

There is a lot of buzz regarding data at this moment. There are industrialists, experts and people who know the ABCs of data asking the government to find ways to help companies store the data locally. The importance of Data Localization and Data Security cannot be stressed enough.

This is going on all over the world and there are startups which have based their entire businesses on the same. It will be interesting to see how SignalChip and their chips help India storm the world market with their chips and bring in the data rather than export it.
