Xiaomi launched its first 64MP camera phone today in India. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro was first unveiled in China this August. The smartphone packs a 64MP quad-camera setup, upgraded performance, and improved design as well. Ahead of today’s launch, Xiaomi has confirmed that it has sold over 100 million units of Redmi Note series around the world.
The new Redmi Note 8 Series has some tough shoes to fill and is also a different device from its predecessor. The Chinese smartphone maker will also introduce MIUI 11 based on Android 10 at the event.
Xiaomi has scheduled an event at 12:00 PM IST and it will be streamed live on YouTube. At the event, Xiaomi will announce the price and availability of its new smartphones. We already know that the Redmi Note 8 Pro will be available via Amazon India and Mi.com after it goes official.
Redmi Note 8 Pro’s top features and specification
Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G90T processor. It comes with 6GB of RAM. Although it is considered not as powerful as its Qualcomm counterparts, it is a very good performer. Having said that the company has cut corners in the processor department.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro runs Android 9 Pie and is powered by a 4500mAh non-removable battery. The Redmi Note 8 Pro supports proprietary fast charging.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Redmi Note 8 Pro on the rear packs a 64-megapixel primary camera; a second 8-megapixel camera; a third 2-megapixel camera and a fourth 2-megapixel camera. The rear camera setup has autofocus. It sports a 20-megapixel camera on the front for selfies.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie and packs 64GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded via microSD card (up to 256GB). The Redmi Note 8 Pro is a dual-SIM (GSM) smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards.
Connectivity options on the Redmi Note 8 Pro include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, Bluetooth v5.00, NFC, Infrared, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India) with active 4G on both SIM cards. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro measures 161.30 x 76.40 x 8.80mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs 199.80 grams. It was launched in Mineral Grey, Pearl White, and Forest Green colours. It bears a glass body.
In China, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is available for Rs 1,399 (around Rs 13,990) while the 128GB storage option is available for RMB 1,599 (around Rs 15,990). The variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage is available for RMB 1,799 (around Rs 17,990). As the trend goes, prices in India can be expected to be around the same as it is in the Chinese market.
