OPPO To Partner Vodafone To Boost Europe Operations

OPPO’s collaboration with Vodafone is intended to accelerate 5G adoption in the European region, and further expand the availability of OPPO products to more Vodafone markets and customers. This collaboration will allow the company’s A-series, Reno series, and Find X series to be available across Vodafone’s retail and online channels.

In the first phase of cooperation, Vodafone will introduce OPPO products across retail channels in Germany, Britain, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, and the Netherlands starting this month.

The deal marks a major advance in Oppo’s drive to become a major global player as it expands beyond its home China market. As one of the world’s top operators, Vodafone had about 115 million mobile subscribers in Europe and another 168 million in Africa as of the end of March.

Oppo was the world’s sixth-largest smartphone brand in this year’s first quarter, selling 22.8 million units during the three-month period, according to data tracking firm IDC.

The announcement further details that most of the company’s manufacturing facilities have resumed normal operation, allowing OPPO and Vodafone to ensure business continuity. Physical retail outlets are constrained because of the advisories issued on the COVID-19 pandemic, so the companies plan to develop their online sales channels to ensure continued support for customers.

Alen Wu, Vice President and President of Global Sales, OPPO said: “OPPO is confident that our industry-leading products and technologies will enable Vodafone to win new opportunities in the 5G era. Vodafone’s vision that ‘we connect for a better future’ aligns with OPPO’s value of ‘Benfen’ – to do the right thing and provide real value to customers. OPPO looks forward to solidifying a long-term win-win relationship with Vodafone to create a better future for our customers in the 5G era.”

Ahmed Essam, Vodafone Group Chief Commercial Operations and Strategy Officer said: “The combination of OPPO’s state-of-the-art devices and Vodafone’s leading network will give our customers greater choice with the full potential of 5G. Vodafone’s partnership with OPPO brings together their attractive product portfolio with our growing strength in 5G to our markets across Europe and beyond.”

This is a big opportunity for both the companies involved. For OPPO, this partnership brings an additional surface for product discovery by tapping into Vodafone’s existing marketing channels across Europe. For Vodafone, this presents ready availability of key flagships such as the Find X2 Pro as well as other smartphones from the company for use on their network, and in furtherance of their overall 5G proliferation goals.

For customers, it presents itself as a good opportunity to pick up great smartphones from familiar channels, building upon the present trust and goodwill. The press release does not mention any carrier-exclusivity in the works, but that could also be a possibility.
