OnePlus TV is set to launch in India later this month. The first smart TV from OnePlus aims to deliver premium and smart experience but at a lesser price than the competition. OnePlus TV will come with as many as eight speakers with 50Watts output. The audio will be powered by Dolby Atmos for a “cinematic sound space”, according to the Amazon listing of the device.
Recently, Pete Lau, Founder & CEO of OnePlus gave us some insight into the company’s latest offering. “Our first #OnePlusTV came off the production line – a truly monumental moment. Within this box, you’ll find over 2 years of dreams, milestones and of course an amazing TV. Proud to seal the very first box, and can’t wait for you to see it!” He tweeted:
A dedicated page for the OnePlus TV is now live on Amazon India, just a few weeks before the expected launch in India. While we still don’t know what the TV will look like, but now we do have an idea of some of the hardware specifications and software features from this page.
In one of his blog posts, Mr. Lau suggested that with the OnePlus TV, they wanted to get the audio and visual experience just right, followed by the software experience. With the QLED screen and octa-speaker arrangement taking care of the audio-visual department,
One of the biggest features of OnePlus TV is going to be the audio. OnePlus TV’s 50W output is significantly higher than what the competition offers.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus TV will come with Dolby Vision support. This means that customers would have the hardware to play HDR 4K video content. It is tipped to come with a MediaTek MT5670 SoC, paired with Mali G51 GPU.
OnePlus is using a QLED screen to offer the optimum viewing experience while keeping the costs under control. Paired with OnePlus TV will use a special image processor for offering a superior colour on its screen. Lau announced in a tweet that OnePlus has worked on a new chip called the Gamma Color Magic processor. As the name suggests, the Gamma Color Magic processor will enable a wider colour range on the OnePlus TV screen. OnePlus says that this processor will enable the best-in-class image quality.
OnePlus TV will be based on Google’s Android TV operating system. It will have Google Assistant and Chromecast built-in, along with access to Google Play to download additional apps and content. The TV can also be controlled via voice commands such as weather, calendar, controlling smart home devices and even look up specific shows and movies.
