Huawei MatePad Pro 5G With Kirin 990 Launched In China

Chinese tech giant Huawei has now officially released the new Huawei MatePad Pro 5G. The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G will be available in two colors: Qingshan Green and Danxia Orange. Meanwhile prices go from 5299 Yuan ($740) for the 8GB + 256GB version to 6799 yuan ($950) for the 8GB + 512GB (includes keyboard and stylus).

The premium 5G tablet was earlier unveiled for the global market in February 2020.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G comes with a large 10.8-inch display featuring 2K resolution and very narrow bezels; which allow the device to attain a 90% screen to body ratio. We then find a maximum brightness of 540 nits and a punch-hole camera in the upper left corner. Meanwhile, on the back we have a skin-like back cover. Overall the tablet is very slim with a thickness of 7.99m and light at 492 grams.

As expected, Huawei’s MatePad Pro 5G is fueled by the most powerful Kirin 990 5G in-house processor. The CPU utilizes a Cortex A76 architecture and 2 + 2 + 4 combinations; with a top frequency in the large core of 2.86GHz; the frequency of the middle-size cores is 2.36GHz and small-size cores top at 1.95GHz. Graphics-wise, the integrated GPU is a Mali-G76 MP16.

The tablet then packs an 8MP front camera and a single 13MP rear shooter. There’re also four-channel four-amplitude speakers, Harman Kardon tuning, and a five-ring array microphone for effective sound pickup within five meters.

Usability wise, Huawei claims that thanks to the high bandwidth and low latency brought by 5G technology, the MatePad Pro 5G can be transformed into a “cloud computer”, allowing it to bring a desktop-like computer experience, easy to operate computer-level applications and run all kinds of office and daily software. Additionally, it’ll support hundreds of cloud games in an exclusive VIP channel.

Obviously it can be used as a productivity tool by artists as well. The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G does indeed provide a 4096-level pressure-sensitive M Pencil; which should bring a “natural pencil-like” user experience. The M Pencil supports magnetic matching and wireless fast charging. The same goes for the magnetic keyboard, with 1.3mm key travel, dual-angle support, ergonomic design, and comfortable typing experience.

As far as battery life is concerned, the tablet boasts a large 7250mAh capacity battery with support for 40W wired fast charging and 27W wireless fast charging. Plus we also find reverse wireless charging. Other features include Histen 6.0 audio support, quad speakers, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS (only on LTE edition), and USB-C. There is no fingerprint scanner and 3.5mm audio jack.
