Cloud computing is the next stage of technological transformation for most enterprises; the first being the adoption of computers in their day-to-day business. Since the world is getting online rapidly and most of the enterprise level works are now taking place over the cloud, it is inevitable for the businesses to embrace it whole-heartedly.

India is one of the countries with a very high rate of transformation in the technology domain. Many companies are positive about the impact that modern technologies are capable to bring to the companies. This is the reason the global tech giants are looking at India as one of the fastest-growing major markets for cloud computing and related technologies.

According to a CNBC TV18 citing NASSCOM report, the growth of the cloud platforms in India is around 16.5% CAGR year-on-year. Till the year 2022, the market will triple in size and it is one the fastest market around the globe. Moreover, the total expenditure on the cloud platforms is said to hit $345 billion by 2022 thanks to the rapid digital transformation to become cognitive enterprises.

Godrej is one of the largest conglomerates in India that has its roots in the Indian independence movement. Founded by Ardeshir Godrej in the lock making space has now expanded to various fields ranging from real estate to consumer electronics and many more. Over 122 years old, Godrej has made huge contributions to the Indian economy in numerous ways and its involvement in the technology field will surely have a similar impact. This is the reason that it has now decided to foray into the cloud technologies and for that, it has the support of the veteran tech giant IBM.

IBM, on the other hand, is a veteran in the technology domain that needs little to no introduction globally. It has given to the technology world that others would only dream of. Now, the collaboration with Godrej in its pursuit of achieving the cloud dream is a significant step not only for the companies but for Indiana swell. The major reason is that it is not just about the new technology and the involvement of a veteran in the field but also about the reputation and experience that these two companies bring to the table, which would create a long-lasting positive impact on the whole scene.

According to CNBC TV8, Godrej claims that the use of cloud services from IBM has helped them reduce operational costs by around 8 – 10%, which is a massive amount considering the size of the company. This is also a huge success for IBM as we know that the company has only recently entered the major race of cloud that is led by Amazon and Microsoft. Currently, Amazon Web Services is the largest player in the cloud services followed by Microsoft’s Azure. Whereas, IBM was nowhere in the scene and could only reach the 3rd spot somehow after its strategic acquisition of another tech major RedHat is known for its softwares especially on the open-source.

The acquisition helped IBM up its cloud services game and become the third-largest player removing Google but is still way behind Amazon and Microsoft. Godrej’s tryst in the company’s Cloud technologies will give bigger business opportunities to IBM in India and also help them do some significant work in the Cloud space.
