Flagship killer becomes a Flagship Itself
Five years after it came out with OnePlus One, the company which came into public attention as Flagship killer is now Flagship itself. After its successful run in the Indian market, the company now finds itself at crossroads. It has reached a stage where it now needs to make a decision, Does it want to go more upmarket or does it want to woo masses?
And as if above conundrum for OnePlus wasn’t major enough, the company is now face to face with another Chinese rival Xiaomi. Which will launch its premium category smartphone Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro on 17th July 2019.
Experts say Xiaomi will give OnePlus a run for its money with its latest launch. The new Redmi feature high-end specifications and premium build and finish and from what we know, they could be priced a much lower than this year’s offerings from OnePlus. Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro both the phones are expected to give a stiff competition to OnePlus Seven and OnePlus Seven Pro, and a simple one-on-one comparison gives the answer.
Redmi Neck and Neck With OnePlus
The Redmi K20 Pro features a 6.39-inch AMOLED Full-HD+ (2340×1080 pixels) resolution display with a 91.9 percent screen to body ratio, DC dimming support, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There is a triple rear camera setup at the back with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX582 primary sensor and an f/1.8 lens, a 13-megapixel secondary camera with a wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel shooter with an f/2.4 telephoto lens. For selfies, there is a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera. Other features include a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, dual SIM support, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack. In terms of the connectivity options, you will get Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and NFC on the smartphone. The K20 Pro comes with a curved Gorilla Glass 5 finish at the back with a metal frame in the middle and a display that covers the entire front. The handset comes in three colour options- Carbon black, Red flame, and Glacier blue.
The OnePlus 7 Pro features a pop up selfie camera like the K20 Pro but lacks the in-built notification LED in the camera. It features a 6.67-inch display with Full-HD+ resolution AMOLED display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. It features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage, respectively. It gets a 4000mAh battery, two rear cameras including a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor and 5-megapixel secondary sensor and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. It is offered in two colours- Mirror Gray and Red.
Currently OnePlus 7 Pro costs around ₹50,000 whereas Redmi K20 Pro is expected to be priced at ₹29,999. With almost similar features and in about 40% lesser cost. Redmi clearly appears to be a better choice in terms of value ofr money offered. However, people with the extra ₹20,000 to spare and a desire for a little extra luxe feel in the hand can opt the more premium OnePlus 7 Pro.
