Artificial Intelligence in the Indian Health Sector

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is the technology that is taking over other technologies in an attempt to make them smart and more convenient for human use. Although the world is divided over the possible impact of AI over the world, it is inevitable for the technology to come to almost all people shortly. According to me, technological advancements are crucial for the human civilization to develop and AI is an important part of that in this century. So, instead of denying its arrival, we should focus on its positive impact and ways to use it in ways that will benefit humanity in any way possible.

India as a country has been taking big leaps in the field of technology as of recently. The world’s second most populated country is also one of the largest economies and to support such as the huge economy and population AI is necessary for a better standard of living and public benefits.

According to a report by the Economic Times, the spread of AI has been restricted to just the startups and a few established companies. In general, it seems that the Indian government agencies as well the large corporates have been shying away from the technologies for a long time now. However, with the increase in the level of technology used by the public, AI is coming to the Indian scene rapidly. In an interview by ET with Anil Valluri, President, NetApp India and SAARC, he said that the advent of AI to India is inevitable.

Ayushman Bharat is an initiative by the Government of India that is supposed to incorporate AI in numerous places due to the scale and nature of the mission. Ayushman Bharat Yojana, also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), is a scheme that aims to help economically vulnerable Indians who require healthcare facilities. It plans to make secondary and tertiary healthcare completely cashless. The PM Jan Arogya Yojana beneficiaries get an e-card that can be used to avail services at an empanelled hospital, public or private, anywhere in the country.

Since each patient will be carrying an e-card and paying cashless, is in itself a clear indication of the huge amount of digitalization happening in the country. Keeping and managing so much of data of the patients, their health reports and payments needs smart use of AI technology to be a smooth experience for the service providers as well as the service users.

NetApp, Inc. is a hybrid cloud data services and data management company headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. It offers hybrid cloud data services for the management of applications and data across cloud and on-premises environments. According to the Economic Times, NetApp has set up a centre for excellence for AI with NVIDIA. They are working with the government for AI-led innovations. Valluri said one of the crucial areas for effective use of Ai could natural language processing given India’s multiple dialects.

Anil Valluri also believes that the use of Ai will increase and get better with the increase in Cloud Technologies. Companies and government organisations operating in India have started the move to inculcate cloud technologies into their businesses so that it becomes easily accessible to multiple parties easily over the internet. Cloud technologies and AI have a very good synchronisation and it has a huge positive impact on the future of Indian economy technology.
