Smartphones are an integral part of the modern era and Android is the most popular operating system in the world at a whopping 88%. Apart from Apple’s iOS, there is no other major OS available in the world and even then, iOS is way behind compared to Google’s Android.
The year was 2008, exactly 10 years ago, when Android was launched on an HTC device called the HTC Dream. The device was launched in the US as a competitor to the already 1-year-old iPhone OS which was launched in 2007.
In the 10 years, Android became the most popular OS by a huge margin because it is an open source and one of the most versatile operating systems available for mobile devices. However, now it is not confined to smartphones. Android is being used for a plethora of devices such as the smartwatches, smart TVs, home appliances and so on. This has given the developers a chance to explore new territories in the technology world.
Apart from an attractive OS, the Android ecosystem has many other benefits such as the PlayStore. This is the applications market just like Apple’s app store but with many more free applications. Android has been an epitome of inventions and explorations. In the last 10 years, Google has become a household name and a big credit goes to the Android ecosystem.
